Research Activities

My research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate homeostasis of essential transition metal ions, such as zinc and copper, in the gram-negative bacteria, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These bacteria are exposed to both high and severely restricted metal concentrations within a host environment. With this, I am interested in characterising  metal transport systems that protect bacterial cells from metal intoxication and metal starvation, and how this can affect bacterial virulence and host-pathogen interactions.
